It’s no secret Game of Thrones has some very problematic couples. From incest to arranged marriages to everything in between, it can be difficult to root for the relationships on the show.
However, there are a handful of couples that we’ve truly rooted for over the years. In absolutely no particular order, here are the top five GOT couples of all time. And the good news is none of them are related!
Robb and Talisa Stark
Robb and Talisa had a fairytale romance… until they were brutally murdered. That’s Game of Thrones for ya! Robb gave up everything to marry Talisa, which ended up being the exact reason they were all killed. Despite the tragic ending, they actually loved each other and cared about one another’s happiness.
Jon Snow and Ygritte
Maybe it’s because Kit Harington and Rose Leslie are actually married in real life, but there was some electric chemistry going on between these two characters. Despite their rocky start, they were just two kids from opposite worlds who ended up falling in love. Of course, in classic GOT fashion, they couldn’t end up together and Ygritte had to die.
Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo
OK, we didn’t love how this relationship started at all, but there was something special about Daenerys and Khal Drogo. Though they were from completely different cultures and didn’t even speak the same language, they learned to love one another and truly became the ultimate power couple.
Catelyn and Ned Stark
Catelyn and Ned were truly in love. While they had an arranged marriage, they both loved one another. But, more importantly, they loved their family and children more. They were probably the most honorable couple of the whole show, though she also had an issue with his bastard, Jon. Too bad she never learned that was a lie.
Samwell Tarly and Gilly
There is no couple purer than Samwell and Gilly. Not only are these two ridiculously adorable, they just want to look out for one another. Plus, how cute was it when Gilly named her son after Sam?!
