Drew Carey went from popular and hilarious comedic actor to household name after he became the host of The Price Is Right. Now, he’s suffered a tragic loss of a former love.
TMZ reports that Dr. Amie Harwick, Carey’s former fiancée, has been murdered. Police say Harwick’s ex-boyfriend caused her death from a fall from a third-story balcony.
Police received a call on Saturday morning about a woman screaming from her Hollywood Hills neighborhood. Harwick’s roommate told police she was being assaulted inside her dwelling. Cops found her unresponsive, lying underneath a third-story balcony, having suffered injuries from a fall. She was taken to a hospital where she later died from those injuries.
Evidence revealed both a forced entry into her home and signs of a struggle. Surveillance footage showed that the suspect was a white male who was wearing black clothing. Harwick had communicated concerns about an ex, whom she had taken out a restraining order on. Unfortunately, the order ended two weeks ago. Police officers arrested Gareth Pursehouse on Saturday, and he was booked for her murder.
Carey and Harwick began dating in 2017. The pair announced their engagement in early 2018 but it wasn’t meant to be as they split up less than a year later.
According to Harwick’s website, the 38-year-old was a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California Polytechnic University in Pomona, California.
She earned her Master’s of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. Harwick also graduated from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality with her Doctorate of Human Sexuality.
Harwick was a recipient of the Phillips Graduate Institute stipend award for her multicultural knowledge and awareness regarding displaced children. She authored the book The New Sex Bible for Women. Entertainment Hub sends deep condolences to Harwick’s family and friends at this difficult time.
