He’s vacillated between the names Snoop Doggy Dogg, Snoop Lion, and back to Snoop Dogg. And now, the artist formerly known as Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. is about to adopt another moniker: birthday boy!

Happy Birthday, Snoop Dogg!

He was born on October 20, 1971, and rose to prominence after his vocals appeared on Dr. Dre’s debut solo single, Deep Cover. His fame grew once he released his own solo album, Doggystyle. That compilation made it to the top of both the Billboard 200 and the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop album charts.

The star’s subsequent albums included Tha Doggfather (1996), Da Game Is to Be Sold (1998), Tha Last Meal (2000), Paid the Cost to Be da Boss (2002), Malice ‘n Wonderland (2009), and Doggumentary (2011).

As an actor, Snoop Dogg has appeared in a number of feature films including The Wash, the horror picture Bones, and Mac & Devlin Go to High School. On the small screen, he starred in the sketch-comedy series Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, hosted the variety show Dogg After Dark, and appeared in the reality series Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood.

His other acting credits include a recurring role on One Life to Live (where he portrayed a slightly fictionalized version of himself) and guest appearances on The L Word, Weeds, Entourage, and Monk. He has also lent his voice to animated programs like King of the Hill, Robot Chicken, and American Dad. Since November 2016, the multi-hyphenate has hosted the variety show Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party alongside his good friend Martha Stewart.

Snoop Dogg has been married to Shante Taylor since January 12, 2008. Together, the couple has welcomed three children: sons Corde (born August 21, 1994) and Cordell (born February 21, 1997) and a daughter, Cori (born June 22, 1999). He also has another son, Julian Corrie Broadus (born in 1998) with former partner Laurie Holmond.

He is a first cousin of R&B singers and professional actors Brandy and Ray J as well as WWE wrestler Sasha Banks. In addition to his acting, hosting, and musical endeavors, Snoop Dogg is also an active entrepreneur and investor.
