Sex and the City is on its way back with three of its original foursome, as HBO Max has committed to a revival of the show, though with a new name — And Just Like That. The popular show, which ran for six seasons on HBO and spurred two movies, was created by Darren Star based on Candace Bushnell’s 1997 book of the same name.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis took to their social media accounts to confirm the good news that Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte would be leading the reboot. However, Kim Cattrall, who rose to fame playing feisty Samantha, will not be returning.
All three actresses posted a video teaser of scenes from New York, which included the phrase “just like that… the story continues…”
“I couldn’t help but wonder… where are they now?” Parker wrote, gleeful about the return.
On her Instagram, Nixon wrote, “You, me, New York…anything is possible.”
While Davis happily posted, “Anything is possible…. Meet you there!”
While Cattrall hasn’t been shy about her feelings on the show, pretty much saying she would never go back, many fans are sad the actress won’t be a part of the reboot.
On Parker’s Instagram, one fan wrote how she would miss the character of Samantha, to which Parker replied, “We will too. We loved her so.”
In a press release, HBO Max revealed the new incarnation will follow Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s. There were no details on what may happen to Samantha.
And Just Like That is scheduled to contain 10 half-hour episodes and is scheduled to begin production in New York late spring. While an expected release hasn’t been revealed, Parker told another fan to “stay tuned” and that details will be shared once everything is worked out.
