Richard Schiff, Wife Sheila Kelley Have Tested Positive For COVID

Mere days after ABC’s The Good Doctor aired its second episode featuring frontline workers struggling with the outbreak of COVID-19, series star Richard Schiff – AKA Dr. Aaron Glassman – has taken to social media and announced that he, and spouse and co-star Sheila Kelly, have tested positive for the disease.

Schiff revealed his diagnosis via Twitter late Tuesday night with a message that read, “On Election Day I tested positive for Covid-19. This has been the most bizarre week of our lives. Sheila Kelley is also positive. This is tough. We are determined to find a way to health again. We root for everyone out there who are struggling with this thing. Love from here.”

Kelley, who co-stars on the medical drama as the wife of Schiff’s character, did her own post on Twitter and explained that, “We are hanging in there. Spiraling love from one to the other. That and deep slow breaths.”

Subsequently, Kelley elaborated on her and Schiff’s predicament in a post uploaded to her Instagram account. In it, the actress revealed that, “We‘re quarantined in our home in Vancouver, recovering. This virus is a slippery sucker. One minute you feel almost fine and the next you can’t catch your breath. Symptoms change radically daily even hourly.”

There is no word yet on how their conditions will impact the filming of The Good Doctor’s fourth season which is ongoing. The series returned to TV screens on November 2 with the first of a two-part episode which depicted the medical staff at St. Bonaventure fighting the good fight amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the disclosure of their status, Schiff and Kelley have been inundated with well-wishes from colleges and industry veterans. Courtney Simon, a former actress turned daytime soap opera scribe, sent the couple, “Every ounce of positive energy imaginable,” and insisted that Schiff was a “treasure.”

Adam Fergus, star of film, stage, and television (and the spouse of former General Hospital actress, Hayley Erin), sent Schiff a comforting, “Be well sir.”

Several of Schiff’s former West Wing co-stars also sent their salutations and hopes for speedy recoveries. Melissa Fitzgerald, who played White House staffer Carol Fitzpatrick, messaged Schiff and promised that she was sending him and Sheila, “So much love,” as did actress Kathleen York – who portrayed the ex-wife of Schiff’s The West Wing character. York also encouraged the consumption of “Vitamin D…lots of it,” as it would, “help stave off effects.”
