Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s love story spanned a decade, and though they recently announced their divorce, the couple tried hard to make it work for many years.

While they ultimately parted ways, we’ll never forget how these former co-stars became one of Hollywood’s most beloved A-list couples. From how they met to their eventual split, find out more about this once great celebrity romance.

How Did Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Meet?

They met on the set of the film adaption of the Nicholas Sparks book The Last Song in 2009. They started dating during the filming process and made their red-carpet debut as a couple at the premiere of the film in March 2010.

The Engagement
After three years of dating, Hemsworth popped the question to Cyrus, who was just 19 years old at the time, on May 31, 2012. Hemsworth proposed with a 3.5-carat Neil Lane diamond ring and the pair confirmed their engagement in June of 2012.

Break-Up Part One
The couple ended their engagement in September 2013, which came one month after Cyrus’s infamous MTV Video Music Awards performance with Robin Thicke. Hemsworth was spotted kissing actress Eiza Gonzalez just one day after the breakup was announced, and Cyrus moved on with Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Engaged Part Two and Married

After spending close to three years apart, Cyrus and Hemsworth were spotted together at a music festival in Australia in January 2016. Cyrus was also spotted wearing her old engagement ring, which seemingly confirmed their relationship was back on.

Then, two years after reuniting, the couple married in a secret wedding at their home in Nashville in December of 2018. Cyrus wore a gorgeous ivory off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood gown and said “I do” in front of just their close friends and family.

Break-Up Part Two
Despite seeming like a very happy couple, Cyrus and Hemsworth shocked fans when they announced their separation on August 10, 2019, after less than a year of marriage. Hemsworth filed for divorce 11 days later. The breakup was made Internet-official when Cyrus deleted her photos with Hemsworth off of social media.
