Jennifer Lopez is currently engaged to former baseball star Alex Rodriguez and appears happier than ever, but that doesn’t mean we can forget her past relationship with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

While these two seemed like a match made in musical heaven back in the day, they ultimately weren’t able to make their marriage work. From how the couple first met to their eventual split, find out more about this once great celebrity romance.

How Did Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony Meet?

The two stars met backstage at the Broadway show The Capeman in 1998. They then worked together a number of times following their introduction and recorded a duet called No Me Ames. While they dated briefly between 1998 and 1999, both Lopez and Anthony were in other relationships for most of their friendship.

Making It Official
Following Lopez’s breakup from ex-fiancé Ben Affleck in 2004, she started dating Anthony again. He was also just out of a relationship, as he ended his marriage to former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres in 2003.

Engagement and Wedding
Anthony proposed to Lopez with a stunning 8.5 blue Harry Winston diamond ring worth close to $4 million. Just six months after they started dating, Lopez and Anthony secretly tied the knot at her home in Beverly Hills in 2004. Only 40 guests attended their wedding and Lopez reportedly wore a strapless Vera Wang dress with Neil Lane jewelry. The couple never made a formal announcement about their wedding and were instead spotted wearing matching wedding rings by paparazzi.

Starting a Family

Jennifer Lopez and Anthony confirmed they were expecting a baby on November 7, 2007 — the final night of their co-headlining tour. But it was her father who revealed the stunning news that she was expecting twins. She gave birth to their son and daughter, Max and Emme, on February 22, 2008, and they were introduced to the world in a March issue of People. The magazine reportedly paid $6 million for the photos, which became the most expensive celebrity photo taken at the time.

Parting Ways
After nearly seven years of marriage, Lopez and Anthony announced their split in July 2011. Anthony filed for divorce in April 2012 and it was finalized in June 2014. Despite their relationship ending, the former couple is still close friends and co-parent their two children.
