Brad Pitt is arguably best known for his marriages to Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie, but before he embarked on those two relationships, he was engaged to actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
The couple’s relationship was fairly high-profile, as both actors were on the rise and gaining popularity while they were together. From how the couple first met to their eventual split, find out more about this once great celebrity romance.
The two actors met while filming their 1995 dramatic mystery film, Se7en, and fell in love almost instantly. Paltrow, who played Tracy, was just 22 at the time, while Pitt, who played Mills, was 31 years old.
Protection From Harvey
Paltrow has been open about being sexually harassed by disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein in the mid-‘90s, and she recently revealed Pitt played a part in protecting her while they were dating.
In an interview with Howard Stern, Paltrow explained she told Pitt about what Weinstein did to her (which was ask her to give him a massage), and he later confronted Weinstein at an event. Paltrow shared how thankful she was for Pitt, as he leveraged his fame to protect her.
Engagement
After about two years together, Pitt popped the question and she said yes. They both opened up about their engagement at the time and revealed they did not take their decision to get married lightly, as nobody in Pitt nor Paltrow’s families had been divorced.
After three years together, the couple called off their engagement in 1997. The news of their split came as a bit of a shock to fans, but it was apparently very sad for Paltrow’s father Bruce Paltrow, who loved Pitt like a son. Paltrow has since revealed she was too young and wasn’t ready for marriage. She also wasn’t used to dating such a high-profile celebrity.
Still Friendly
Despite splitting up over 20 years ago, the two actors are still friendly with one another. Paltrow has revealed that she and Pitt will chat if they ever run into each other and that there’s no bad blood between them.
