There have been so many major celebrity couples over the years, but no couple will ever match the star power of Brad Pitt and Angelia Jolie — AKA Brangelina — and the headlines they generated.
Though the pair were only technically married for two years, their relationship lasted over a decade and took the world by storm. From how the couple first met to their sad split, find out more about this once-great celebrity romance.
Pitt and Jolie met while filming their movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith in the summer of 2004. Though Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston at the time, the pair later admitted they fell in love on set.
Making It Official
Pitt and Aniston announced their separation in January 2005 and just a few months later, Pitt and Jolie were spotted vacationing in Kenya together. They were also featured in a W Magazine spread called “Domestic Bliss,” which portrayed them as a happy couple. Needless to say, Pitt and Aniston’s divorce was finalized by October 2005.
Starting a Family
The happy couple announced they were expecting their first child in January 2006 and welcomed their daughter, Shiloh, in May 2006. Pitt also adopted Angelina Jolie’s two children, Maddox, and Zahara. They then adopted another son, Pax, in 2007, and welcomed their twins, Vivienne and Knox, in July 2008.
Neither Jolie nor Pitt was in a hurry to get married, but the couple did announce their engagement in 2012. In fact, Pitt proposed to Jolie with a stunning $1 million ring. They then wed on August 14, 2014, at the Chateau Miraval in France.
Jolie wore a beautiful Versace dress that actually had drawings her kids made embroidered on the back. Zahara and Vivienne were flower girls, while Shiloh and Knox were the ring bearers. Maddox and Pax walked their mom down the aisle.
Parting Ways
After just two years of marriage, Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016. The news of their split came just days after there was reportedly an altercation between Brad Pitt and their oldest son, Maddox, on a private plane. The couple officially finalized their divorce in April 2019.
