Primetime Stars Speak Out Against Bullying on Spirit Day

Today, October 15 is designated as Spirit Day, National Bullying Prevention Month. Major celebrities and primetime stars are wearing purple, a color that supports anti-bullying and shows support for the LGBTQ community.

Primetime Stars Mark Spirit Day

“Let’s tell every young person that it’s okay to be who you are.✊🏿#SpiritDay,” posted This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown, who plays Randall Pearson, on the NBC primetime drama.

Whoopi Goldberg, host of The View, recorded a video in support of Spirit Day and anti-bullying measures, which was reposted by GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Anti-Defamation organization. “Thank you to @TheView for supporting LGBTQ youth and standing up against bullying for #SpiritDay! 💜,” posted GLAAD.

Country star Reba McEntire posted: “Today is #SpiritDay Go purple with me if you’re against bullying!” The cast of Shameless on Showtime got together not only to don some purple T-shirts to support Spirit Day but also wore masks to emphasize the importance of not spreading the coronavirus. “Smiling hard under these masks,” reads the tweet from Shameless. “Happy #SpiritDay! 💜.”

“I’m wearing purple on today to show LGBTQ youth I’ve got their backs!” posted Colin Mochrie, who appears on Whose Line Is It Anyway? Singer Celine Dion posted: “We’re going purple in solidarity with @glaad #SpiritDay! I encourage all of you to join us and take a stand against anti-LGBTQ bullying. Baseball team The New York Mets also supports Spirit Day. “Today we celebrate #SpiritDay and stand against bullying. 💜,” read a post from the team’s official account.

Star Trek Discovery’s Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber) and other of the sci-fi brand’s cast members shot a video supporting Spirit Day. The show’s official Twitter account posted: “Happy #SpiritDay from all of us in the #StarTrekUniverse! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 You matter, you belong, and we love you.”

The Twitter account of the multiple Emmy award-winning comedy series Schitt’s Creek posted: “Whether you drink red wine, white wine, all wines or no wine at all, #SpiritDay celebrates you!”

Chelsea Clinton posted: “I hope you will join me in supporting LGBTQ youth & standing against bullying…” Also, The Masked Singer’s Ken Jeong posted: “Today is #SpiritDay Go purple with me if you’re against bullying!”

Marsai Martin, who stars as Diane ABC’s black-ish, shot a video in support of Spirit Day. The blackish twitter account posted: “#ChooseKindness this #SpiritDay! Join #blackish and @MarsaiMartin in wearing purple today to support LGBTQ youth and stand against bullying.” Check out the full posts and videos below.
