President Donald Trump is coming after Empire star Jussie Smollett again. The former Apprentice host brought up the disgraced actor while speaking to the National Republican Congressional Committee on Tuesday, April 2.
He went after the 36-year-old while bringing up “MAGA Country” being his potential 2020 campaign slogan.
“How about the guy from Chicago? The actor that nobody ever heard of. I said, ‘Who the hell is that?’ [Smollett] said he got taken out by ‘MAGA country.’ I said, ‘What the hell was that?’ I guess that’s a hate crime, right?” he told the crowd, according to USA Today.
“I think that case is an absolute embarrassment to our country, and somebody has to at least take a very good hard look at it,” Trump also talked with reporters last week about the case.
This comes just a week after Trump tweeted about the Smollett case following the news all of his charges had been dropped.
“FBI & DOJ to review the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago. It is an embarrassment to our Nation!” he tweeted.
Smollett was arrested earlier this year after being accused of reportedly staging his own hate crime. However, last week, the Chicago prosecutors dropped all of the charges against Smollett, despite the fact the Chicago mayor and the Chicago Police Superintendent did not agree with the decision.
It’s unclear if Smollett will be returning to Empire for a sixth season, but he was written out of the final two episodes of Season 5. In fact, the Fox show has yet to be renewed for a sixth season. While some of his fellow cast members and crew are on his side, others apparently still believe he’s guilty of staging the whole thing.
