When Calls the Heart Season 12 had many heartstopping moments. There are big changes ahead for some of your favorite characters. Even though the Seaon 12 finale aired in March, new details are still coming out. The new showrunner Joy Gregory revealed that a major storyline was removed from the Hallmark series.

Pivotal Storyline Cut

In WCTH Season 12 Episode “Must Be Gold,” a character was not involved in many of the storylines. In the episode, Edie (Miranda MacDougall) and Lucas (Chris McNally) found gold, along with Bill (Jack Wagner), Rosemary (Pascale Hutton), and Nathan (Kevin McGarry). Meanwhile, the seniors have graduated from high school. Now, they will plan their dreams and adventures. (See how WCTH is ushering in the next generation.)

Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Little Jack (Hyland Goodrich) left Hope Valley for Cape Fullerton. They hope to get a proper diagnosis for his diabetes condition. At the end of the cliffhanger episode, Nathan and Allie (Jaeda Lily Miller) joined them. As you can see, there were a lot of storylines. Gregory talked about the Season 12 finale on The Official Hearties Aftershow. She addressed the current storylines and the show’s future.

She revealed that Henry Gowens’ (Martin Cummins) pivotal scene was removed at the last minute. “We had a story about Henry being a grandfather,” Gregory admitted. However, they wanted to focus on the other storylines. Her main focus was Allie and Angela’s (Vienna Leacock) heartbreaking goodbye. “They have to say goodbye on screen,” she explained. It wasn’t an easy decision. Gregory admitted that not showing Henry’s storyline was a “regrettable” choice. She commended Cummins’ acting, noting he did “beautiful work in those scenes.”

WCTH Season 13 Spoilers

Hearties didn’t see much of Henry in Season 12. However, he will take on a major role in Season 13. “We’ve got something really nice cooking for Henry. I’m very excited about it,” Gregory teased. During the podcast, writer Allie Devereaux revealed what else fans could expect.

The Season 12 cliffhanger showed that things are going to change for some of Hope Valley’s residents. There could be some life and death situations. But that doesn’t necessarily suggest that Season 13 will be as serious. Devereaux teased that the next season will be more fun and lighthearted.

Also, Devereaux wanted Henry to experience more peace in Season 12 before he takes on a pivotal role. “We just needed to find some time for him in true peace so we could get him to where we need him to be for this story that’s coming in Season 13,” she added. Hallmark renewed WCTH for Season 13. Production will begin in Vancouver, BC this coming summer. The new season will premiere some time in 2026.
