Why Charles Ling Joined Golden Bachelorette Despite Heartbreak

Charles Ling quickly became a fan favorite on The Golden Bachelorette. Fans love his sweet and wholesome personality. Also, the story about his late wife had many rooting for him to find love again. Despite his tragic loss, Charles was determined to join the dating competition. 

Bachelor Nation Speaks to Fan Favorite

Charles L. spoke to Bachelor Nation about the application process for the dating series and revealed why he joined the show to find love. His daughter encouraged him to join the series. Charles caught wind of the Golden Bachelor craze, but he never watched a single episode. 

His daughter had him watch the show with her. She told her father she feels he must move on and find happiness. Charles applied to be a suitor on The Golden Bachelorette. He received a phone call within a few days, and the interview process started. 

Charles wasn’t sure if this was his time. As you can see on the show, he’s still dealing with the loss of his wife six years later. On the Wednesday, October 2nd episode, he revealed to ER doctor Guy Gansert the questions he still had on his mind after his wife’s death. Guy helped Charles get some sort of closure so he could move forward.

Trying to Get a Rose

Charles explained what attracted him to Joan Vassos. He noticed they are similar in age and don’t live far away from one another, so there is no need for one to pack up and move. 

Charles opened up about some of their conversations. He noticed that she’s “a good listener and a good communicator.” He also called Joan “very articulate.”

Charles believes the other men in the mansion are all suitable for her. Unlike the men on The Bachelorette, these men don’t see each other as competition. They formed a deep bond that will go on long after the show. However, Charles said he isn’t used to courting a woman who’s dating multiple men at once. 

Charles found his confidence while on the show. He believes that Joan likes some of his qualities. Charles also spoke about his experience in the prom episode, where he sat alone on the bleachers. He told producers he couldn’t help but think about his late wife.
