The WCTH Prequel Series is Coming Soon

PEOPLE was the first to reveal the details on Hope Valley: 1874. As we previously reported, the makers of When Calls the Heart want to expand the Hope Valley universe with not one, but two prequels. The first one will be available to stream on Hallmark+ only on March 21.

New episodes will drop every Thursday. There’s also a trailer that gives you a “first look” at this new series, revealing what happened in Hope Valley in the 1870s.

The voiceover is heard saying, “Before Coal Valley, before the town built on love and faith, there was a story of new beginnings. They traveled west for a new life. They were building more than just a home. They were building hope.”

Hope Valley Back When It Was Coal Valley

Hearties will get a history lesson on this town, which was originally called Coal Valley. The trailer shows Rebecca Clark (Lenz) arriving in the Western Canadian town with her 11-year-old daughter, Sarah (Mila Morgan).

The two get a ride from local rancher, Tom Moore (Ayres). Sarah reminded him that her mom can do anything. Tom doesn’t argue with that. He could get a feel for Rebecca’s energy from the moment that he met her. Will these two end up falling in love?

At the end of the trailer, Tom and Rebecca spend time on his ranch. He looks over at her and tells her, “I’m looking to build something that lasts.” Rebecca responded, “So am I.”

The show teased that Rebecca has the “best intentions to remain unattached,” but she can’t help what she feels. This love story will ultimately become a slow burn as she “can’t help but slowly fall for Tom.”

NEXT: WCTH’s Erin Krakow teases that Elizabeth and Nathan are “like husband and wife” in Season 13.

It’s not just another love story. It’s also a celebration of female friendship as Rebecca becomes friends with Hattie Quinn (Jill Hennessy). All eight episodes will be available to stream on Thursday, starting March 26. Hope Valley: 1874 premieres on Saturday, March 21.
