Brooke Shields finally returned to When Calls the Heart. This moment was very much needed for her character, Charlotte, who lost her son Nathan years ago. She needed to return and pay her respects to her son, so she could heal and move on. However, Shields feels that Charlotte’s journey is over.
Key Takeaways
- Brooke Shields reprised her role as Charlotte in Season 13 of WCTH.
- Hearties wonder whether she’ll return to Hope Valley in Season 14.
- Shields is not counting on it yet since she feels that Charlotte’s journey was the healing that she needed.
Charlotte Thornton Finally Returns to Hope Valley
Brooke Shields reprised her role as Charlotte Thornton in Season 13 of When Calls the Heart. This was the closure and healing that her character needed. On the March 8 episode, Charlotte and Nathan (Kevin McGarry) visited Jack’s (Daniel Lissing) grave for the first time since he passed away.
Nathan asked Charlotte’s blessing to propose to Elizabeth (Erin Krakow). He wanted to respect Elizabeth’s first love. Charlotte left Hope Valley and returned to Cape Fullerton.
In an interview with TV Insider, Shields admitted that she can’t see Charlotte returning to Hope Valley anytime soon.
“I think having Charlotte there these episodes was a real commencement, a send-off, and a new chapter, right?” Shields noted. “So to bring her back, I don’t know if it would be the best thing because, right now, Little Jack has Nathan, and you wouldn’t want Charlotte’s recurrence to be convoluted or confused at all.”
Shields made it clear that Charlotte’s “work here has been done.” She wants to close that chapter on her character’s life. As for the Hearties, they might be disappointed to learn that Charlotte might not attend Elizabeth and Nathan’s wedding.
Brooke Shields’ Final Return to WCTH
This also marks the end of an era for Shields. She feels that her character had to close an important chapter in her life. She never got to properly mourn the loss of her son in order to move on.
“I think it’s a fresh start,” Shields explained. “And I think, whatever happens, I think all the boxes have been checked, and it’s been done with love. It’s a big moment of change for everybody.”
Charlotte even established a relationship with Little Jack (Hyland Goodrich), which holds so much meaning for her. “I think she went back to her boarding house feeling very resolved, and yet ready to continue to do the work she has established for herself in her environment,” Shields added.
