Lucas had a minor storyline in When Calls the Heart Season 12. He shifted his focus to the gubernatorial campaign and struck up a new romance with Edie. But his feelings are still tied to Elizabeth, especially after she moved to Cape Fullerton with her family. Lucas will have more of a prominent role in Season 13, as more secrets are being revealed.
Major Storyline
Hearties have been wanting more for Lucas (Chris McNally) on the period drama. They’re finally getting their wish. Lucas and Edie (Miranda MacDougall) will continue their relationship in Season 13. In a new interview on the Official Hearties Aftershow, writer Allie Devereaux shared hints about the upcoming season.
Lucas will finally have a major storyline. Of course, she couldn’t reveal too much since the show isn’t in production yet. She promised that there would be more focus on the fan favorite. Hearties were concerned that Lucas would leave Hope Valley behind, but not just yet.

“I love what we’re planning for him. I’m so excited. He’s not going anywhere. He’s an essential part of Hope Valley, and we’re going to bring him back and weave him into the life of the town in personal and professional ways that are going to be really satisfying,” Deveraux shared.
In Season 12, Lucas and Edie grew closer and shared many moments together. Although they didn’t get along at first, they put their differences aside to solve a mystery involving a coin. Lucas might have feelings for Elizabeth (Erin Krakow), but he will finally move on.
Big Changes
This revelation comes after it’s been reported that big changes are coming to Season 13 of WCTH. Joy Gregory replaced former showrunner Lindsay Sturman. Executive producer Brian Bird announced the change on The Official Hearties podcast.
Interestingly enough, Sturman replaced John Tinker in Season 10. Tinker was the showrunner when Elizabeth romanced Lucas. For years, she was in a love triangle with Lucas and Nathan (Kevin McGarry). After Sturman too over, Elizabeth ended her engagement with Lucas, and chose Nathan.
