Mary Beth Roe is gearing up for her final show on QVC before retirement. The host has been part of the shopping channel for 37 years. Mary Beth admitted that it was a “tough decision” to step down from her long-time position. She relied on her faith to get her through.
Teasing Final Show
Mary Beth’s final show will air live on Friday, March 21, at 8 p.m. ET. In the meantime, the fan-favorite spoke to Us Weekly about what viewers can expect. She will have an emotional farewell that will include her family and friends, as well as some special guests. Mary Beth shared that her retirement has been in the works for a while now. She realized in 2023 that she would be turning “65 in 2024.” She wondered how long she should work with QVC.
In 2024, she brought up the idea of retirement to her boss. But she was thinking of leaving in August 2024. Understandably, no one wanted her to leave, but they understood. Around that time, other hosts were leaving. Jennifer Coffey announced her surprise departure. (Find out why Jennifer left her “dream job.”) Ultimately, Mary Beth had to push off her retirement plans. That’s when she planned to leave in March 2025.
Unfortunately, Mary Beth went through a devastating loss during this time. She lost her friend to cancer. The television personality realized that no one knows how much time they have on this earth. So, she was encouraged to retire to spend more time with her family. “I worked 38 years, and I have four grandkids, and I don’t want to regret missing out on their lives because I spent another year or two working,” Mary Beth explained.
Also, in the interview, she revealed what viewers can expect from her final show. There will be special surprises and guests. Mary Beth admitted she doesn’t like surprises, but she did choose her guests for her final show, such as Valerie Par Hill. She wanted to be “surrounded by people I love.” At first, Mary Beth wanted a live studio audience, but she joked, “I don’t want to have an emotional breakdown. So, I decided, ‘No, let’s not.'”
Why Mary Beth Is Retiring
Mary Beth spoke to fellow QVC co-host Shawn Killinger on the 50+ and Unfiltered podcast about her decision to retire. She realized that she “spent a lot of time” on her job because she’s a hard worker. That’s how she was raised. Mary Beth had given so much that she didn’t have anything else to give anymore.
She also didn’t want to leave until the host team was successful. The host team is in the best shape that it’s been in – in years. Mary Beth felt good about leaving the team on a high. She knew she didn’t have to offer them any other guidance or knowledge. Hosting isn’t as easy as it looks. Mary Beth explained to Shawn that they work “50 to 60 hours per week.” The moment she comes home from work, she has to prepare for the following day.
Shawn was overcome by emotion. She called Mary Beth “an anchor and a force for good.” The OG host brought a “sense of calm” to their team. Shawn recalled the times that Mary Beth took her under her wing and strengthened her faith. While it’s “devastating” to lose Mary Beth, Shawn is in awe of her “incredible legacy.” She will surely be missed.
