Mel Owens’ season of The Golden Bachelor has had its share of controversial and dramatic moments. One of them involves The View’s Whoopi Goldberg, who criticized contestant Terri Alani.
Key Takeaways
- Terri Alani is one of the 23 contestants vying for Mel Owens’ heart.
- She’s a cosmetic dentist from Houston, Texas.
- Alani is also a ventriloquist.
- She got Owens’ attention by bringing her red-headed puppet with her during the premiere.
Behind Alani’s Memorable Entrance
Like many, Alani wanted to stand out during her first night. A limo pulled up to the mansion, revealing the contestant, who brought a puppet along with her. The 71-year-old stunner used her puppet to work her charm.
“This is Carly, my favorite dental assistant. Hi, Mel! I bet you weren’t expecting all of these women over 60 to look so hot, right?” Alani said as she made the puppet talk. Owens responded, “Correct.” Alani responded, “And I bet you weren’t expecting this either, buddy.”
She made the puppet smack Owens across the face. The bizarre moment had Bachelor Nation fans talking. It also caught the attention of The View ladies. Goldberg called out Alani for moving her lips. “With ventriloquists, the ventriloquist’s lips should not be moving.”
Her fellow co-hosts, Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin weren’t impressed either. Haines mostly referred to Alani as “the muppet woman” throughout the segment. Unfortunately, Alani was eliminated in Week 3. Her first impression didn’t last for long.
Alani Responds to Goldberg’s Criticism
In an interview with Us Weekly that was published on Sunday, October 19, Alani addressed the criticism she received on The View. She didn’t understand why they were calling her “the muppet woman.” Alani will take the credit, thought.
“I mean, ‘the muppet woman’? That’s a whole new profession for me, because I’m a dentist,” she corrected them. But that’s not all. Alani also had an important message to share with the Oscar winner.
“Honestly, I was upset about my lips moving, which she called me out on as well,” Alani admitted. But she wasn’t too hurt by Goldberg’s criticism. She called out the comedian for struggling to say the word ventriloquist. “So Whoopi, take that!”
Despite being eliminated, Alani is watching to see which of her friends will end up with Owens’ final rose. During last Wednesday’s episode, he chose Cindy Angelcyk Cullers, Debbie Siebers, and Peg Munson for the hometown dates and as his final three choices.
Alani made friends on the show. So, she feels that she’s just watching her friends fall in love with him. She has no idea who he’ll end up with.
Meanwhile, contestant Nicolle Kate Briscoe caused drama when she revealed her true intentions for ending up in the competition. In her interview, Alani clamed that “Nicolle’s not a a bad chick.”
However, former contestant Joan Vassos feels that the new Golden Bachelor contestant is out of touch. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments section.
