MAX’s medical drama The Pitt quickly became a phenomenon in the first part of 2025. It has generated Emmy talk, especially for its star Noah Wyle, formerly Dr. John Carter on ER. But you can’t binge the first season without noticing a few soap connections in the form of alums from Another World, Days of Our Lives, and One Life to Live.

About The Riveting Series

What makes The Pitt standout isn’t just the A+ performances from the likes of Wyle (Dr. Robby), Shawn Hatosy (Dr. Abbott), Katherine LaNasa (Dana), Tracy Ifeachor (Dr. Collins), and the rest of the cast. It’s the show’s format that really sucks you in. The entire 15-episode season consists of one shift at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, teaching hospital at the core of the show. This means each episode makes up one hour of said shift.

Needless to say, each hour is intense and involves life-and-death situations. The doctors, nurses, and the rest of the staff deal with the emotional issues as well as the external and internal obstacles that make it tough to run a struggling operation. The emergency room is continually filled to capacity. They must deal with volatile personalities, budget cuts, and wide-scale disasters that filter through their hospital regularly.

Three soap alums and a Bold and the Beautiful actor were part of The Pitt‘s magical and critically acclaimed first season. A season where each episode averaged more than ten million viewers, with 13 consecutive weeks of growth, according to Variety.

Guest Stars Checking In

B&B’s Henry Joseph Samiri
The Pitt Character: Harrison Ashcroft
Episodes: 6 (episodes 10-15)

Samiri, who plays Thomas’s (Matthew Atkinson) son Douglas on B&B, hasn’t been seen in a while on the soap since Thomas and Douglas are currently living in Paris with Paris.

So it was great to see him on The Pitt as Doctor Cassie MacKay’s (Fiona Dourif) kind, intelligent son, whose dad was a bit of a sleaze. At one point, Samiri’s character had to wait patiently as his mother worked tirelessly to save the lives of patients who were shot and injured in a shooting at a music festival. Fun Fact: The actress who plays his mom, Fiona Dourif, is the daughter of veteran actor Brad Dourif. Dourif made a cameo during the season, playing Samiri’s grandfather.

AW alum, Joanna Going
The Pitt Character: Theresa Saunders
Episodes: 11 (episodes 1, 2, 3, 6, 9-15)

The Another World alum also starred on the late, great soap Search for Tomorrow. But ever since she left daytime in 1989, she’s had a lengthy career in primetime and movies. Her big screen projects include Wyatt Earp, starring Kevin Costner, Dennis Quaid, and the late Gene Hackman. Her small screen credits include House of Cards, Kingdom, and Mad Men.

On The Pitt, Going played a mother dealing with a troubled son with severe psychological issues. It was one of the biggest overarching storylines of the season, spanning 11 episodes. Her character had to hang around the hospital the entire day, and many of her scenes involved Noah Wyle, the ex-ER star and one of The Pitt‘s executive producers as well as its lead.

DAYS alum Marci Miller
The Pitt Character: Gina Philips
Episodes: 1 (episode 8)

Daytime audiences know Miller from her DAYS days. During her on-and-off run on the show, she received three Daytime Emmy nominations for playing Abigail Deveraux. Before guest-starring on MAX’s emergency room medical drama, she appeared on another medical show in a complex role. She was a pregnant patient on NBC’s Chicago Med.

But on The Pitt, she played a mother whose kid may have drowned. As an actress, Miller had to conjure up all the emotions in order to play this scared, potentially devastated mom who was afraid she might lose her child. It was actually one of the most heartbreaking episodes of the season.

OLTL alum Jessica Morris
The Pitt Character: Susan Dunn
Episodes: 2 (episodes 6 and 7)

On One Life to Live, Morris played Jennifer, a member of the Rappaport family. Her parents were Kale Brown’s Michael and Catherine Hickland’s Lindsey, and Jason Shane Scott played her brother. Ever since exiting OLTL, she appeared in movies and guest-starred on shows like the Party of Five reboot, Netflix’s The Upshaws, and CSI: NY.

Morris plays the desperate mother whose husband is a patient in the ER. But one of the doctors starts to realize that there’s so much more to the reasons the husband is sick. And it has very much to do with what the mother is willing to do to protect her kids. This character is a very unglamorous type of role for the actress.

The entire season one of The Pitt is available to stream and binge on MAX.
