American Idol Season 24 is also underway. The previous season just wrapped up in May, but the show is already hunting its next big star. Season 24 will return sometime in 2026. In the meantime, a new promo video dropped, but fans noticed that Ryan Seacrest was missing.
All Three Judges Returning
There were questions about whether Carrie Underwood’s time on the show was a one-season stint and whether Katy Perry would return. ABC confirmed which judges were returning. Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan will be the judges for the upcoming season.

ABC will kick off its open casting call on September 3 nationwide and in select cities. The official Instagram account for Idol shared a post featuring all three judges. The caption reads, “This announcement? It’s getting a gold star. Luke, Carrie, and Lionel are BACK, and Idol Across America auditions start this week! What are you waiting for? Register now!”
Seacrest Out?
Seacrest has been the host since its humble beginnings. When it premiered in 2002 on FOX, he had a co-host, Brian Dunkleman, who left after one season. ABC shared a promo video that featured the three judges and had a back-to-school vibe. “The three judges are back for another amazing season of Idol University,” Richie said in the video. “The only one missing is you.”

Underwood and Bryan said in unison, “You!” But fans noticed that Seacrest wasn’t featured in the promo despite becoming the face of the singing competition. ABC hasn’t mentioned them in their promo or social media posts, and they also haven’t promoted AI on their Instagram account.
