Big Night For Michael B. Jordan

Soap alum Michael B. Jordan is shaking up awards season and the Oscars race. In the past, horror movies weren’t even considered. However, Jordan’s performance in the vampire drama Sinners has earned him another award, as reported by XMAG.

On Sunday night, Jordan attended the 2026 Actor Awards. He brought home the top prize for best male performance in a leading role for his work in Sinners. Jordan won the award for his portrayal of the twin brothers Smoke and Stack.

The win caught Jordan off guard. It’s also shaken up the critical Oscars race, proving he’s a top contender. While accepting his award at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Jordan admitted that he was shocked.

“I wasn’t expecting this at all,” Jordan said. Presenter Viola Davis screamed with glee when she read his name. Jordan later returned to the stage with the cast of Sinners, winning best performance by a cast in a motion picture. This was Jordan’s second win at the 2026 Actor Awards, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

What This Means for the 2026 Oscars

At the start of the awards season, Jordan was not named as one of the actors to beat. Fellow nominees included Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), and Jesse Plemons (Bugonia).

“I’m so honored and privileged to be nominated in categories with people that I love,” Jordan said as he accepted his award. “This ride has been unbelievable. So thank you for welcoming me in and making me feel seen.”

During his speech, Jordan reflected on his early career, which started by accident. He got his start in soaps, but admitted he wanted to join SAG-AFTRA as a teen. (Beyond the Gates and Jordan score big nods at NAACP Image Awards).

“It was a club I desperately wanted to be part of. I remember watching the actors I respected being part of that community and thinking: one day, I want to be up there in a suit holding an award,” Jordan noted.

Now, he’s one step closer to winning an Oscar. Sinners already made a buzz this awards season with its 16 nominations. It also amassed $369 million globally at the box office.
