Lisa Rinna left The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and rebranded herself as a fashion darling. The Days of Our Lives alum also has her own podcast. Now, she’s opening up about life on the Bravo series, and it wasn’t cheap.

Going Back To Her Soap Roots

Rinna appeared on the Still the Place podcast alongside her former Melrose Place co-stars Courtney Thorne-Smith, Daphne Zuniga, and Laura Leighton. The soap alums talked about their time on the juicy primetime soap. Rinna also got candid about her time on RHOBH. She admitted that starring on the reality show came with a hefty price tag.

Production doesn’t pay for the lavish parties and trips that the cast goes on every season. The cast members have to pay for everything, including their makeup and hair. “You said that each cast member has to pay for her own parties?” Thorne-Smith asked. “And your own hair, makeup, and wardrobe! Imagine that,” Rinna confirmed.

Some fans would assume that the drama was the hardest part of filming the series. However, for Rinna, it was paying for her own glam. “That’s the part that’s the hardest, because we’re used to being dressed,” she said, as she pointed to the actresses. “They want your real life. Their take on it is: you should look how you look, because this is your life. So they want that.”

Why She Left RHOBH

Rinna revealed why she left the series, and it wasn’t because of the catfights. She was tired of paying for that kind of lifestyle. “But I didn’t love that part of it, because I spent all my money on hair and makeup and wardrobe. You know what I mean? You just spend it all,” Rinna said.

Thorne-Smith said it’s only fair for production to pay for the Housewives’ hair and makeup, especially when they’re filming their confessional interviews in their homes. “So, they should pay for how they want you to look in their world,” she noted. Rinna agreed with her, saying, “I still don’t buy it. I think — they’re just cheap, and hair and makeup should be covered. I really do.”

Rinna had a guest role in Season 4, but was quickly bumped up to full-time cast member. She left the show after Season 12. There’s a high expectation for these Housewives to live up to their lavish lifestyles. Keeping up with appearances can get costly. What are your thoughts on Rinna’s confession?
