Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos announced a new career shift. On Friday, May 9, they starred in a new project that takes the All My Children alumni back to their soap opera roots. Their son will join them for the fun, too.
Going Old School
Soap operas are trending once again. Beyond the Gates premiered earlier this year. A new audio soap opera, Montecito, is in the works. Now, another podcast series will feel like an old-school soap opera. The 10-episode series called Summer Breeze is now available to stream on Audible, reports Parade.
But it’s not just another podcast. It’s a 10-episode audio soap opera you’ll want to listen to while relaxing on the beach. This riveting new story will also have you on the edge of your seat. It has twists and turns in each episode.
“When a young, struggling screenwriter’s [Sarah Steele] greatest dream turns into a nightmare after her script is stolen by an uber-powerful male producer [Consuelos], she forms a surprising alliance with a former opera star [Ripa] harboring secrets of her own,” the description reads.
The two women will “devise a daring, twisted plan to seek justice against the producer through the long-running soap opera Summer Breeze.” The producer won’t have any idea what he’s in for. Together, the women will join forces to turn his “monstrosity into their art.” This scripted series will have “deception, forbidden romance, and jaw-dropping revelations.”

Keeping It In the Family
According to the new release, their son, Michael, will also join them on the scripted series. Other cast members include Adriane Lenox, Ally Sheedy, Grey Henson, and Zack Gilford. In a press release, Ripa and Consuelos explained why they wanted to join this new project.
“Our relationship started on All My Children, so revisiting the world of soap operas, this time through a whole new medium, was a full-circle experience,” the AMC alums said. “It’s a fresh take on the genre we love, with fun surprises, familiar voices, and something for both longtime soap fans and audio drama lovers alike.”
This is a unique way to bring both worlds together. Both soap opera and theater fans alike will get something out of this intriguing series. Interestingly enough, soap got its start on the radio, so it seems like it’s coming full circle. What are your thoughts on Ripa and Consuelos’ new project? Let us know in the comments section.
