ABC finally unveiled the promo for 9-1-1, which sends their emergency personnel into outer space. This episode has already trumped the three-episode “Bee-Nado” event, which left fans with more questions than answers.
Check Out the Outerworldly Promo
Athena (Angela Bassett) and Hen (Aisha Hinds) will be going into space. The teaser promo for ABC’s procedural drama shows them blasting off into the ninth season.
A voiceover is heard saying, “Hello, 911, what’s your emergency?” The caller exclaims, “The sky is falling!” The responder says, “Help is on the way,” without asking for further details or whether this is a prank call.
The 911 team arrives at the scene and discovers that meteors are falling. That threat will send Athena and Hen into space despite their lack of space training.
This season seems to have been inspired by the Blue Origin Shepherd flight, which had an all-female crew that included Katy Perry, Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn. This event was meant to be empowering, but was met with backlash for being “out of touch.”
That’s not the only 911 promo that dropped this week. Fans finally got the first glimpse of the spin-off series, 911: Nashville, which teases a cameo by country singer Kane Brown.
What Happened To Realism?
Fans took to Reddit to react to the promo teaser. Most were left wondering what happened to realism. The show’s creator, Tim Minear, claimed that realism was the reason why fan-favorite Bobby (Peter Krause) was suddenly killed off. (Here’s why Bobby’s death was good for the show.)
“I can’t believe this is real. Okay, 911, sure. Whatever you say! A cop and a firefighter in space. I’m unsure how they’re gonna explain that, but I unfortunately will be finding out why on October 9,” one fan wrote.
“Remember when they killed Bobby for realism,” someone else commented.
“Forget jumping the shark, they’ve jumped the planet,” another Redditor responded.
