When host Jesse Palmer spoke to Golden Bachelor Mel Owens, he felt like he was looking through a mirror. In a new interview, he pointed out their similarities.

Palmer spoke candidly to Us Weekly about his kinship with Owens. Both are former NFL players, but they also share similar personalities.
Palmer can relate to Owens, especially how he makes his decisions during Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor, which premiered on Wednesday, September 24. The premiere was different from previous episodes, which covered the first two weeks.
“Mel, like myself, as a former football player, [he’s] very analytical, likes to prepare, really thinks about it,” Palmer explained. “He’s studying, and he wants to execute on game day.”
Palmer noted that he and Owens are “sort of cut from the same cloth a little bit more in terms of our backgrounds and what we thought we knew coming into this role.”
Palmer was the lead on Season 5 of The Bachelor. He became Owens’ number one fan, even as he received backlash for his age requirements, which Owens had apologized for numerous times. He even apologized during the Season 2 premiere.
“He’s a player who wants to be coached. You can tell he’s always asking questions, and he always wants to know something,” Palmer said.
Offering Up Advice
Elsewhere in the interview, Palmer shared the advice he gave Owens. “You’ve got to be authentic and just be yourself,” he simply stated.
Palmer assured the former Los Angeles Rams player that he couldn’t prepare for this role. He also advised Owens to let down his guard and allow the women to get to know him.
Palmer could see himself in Owens. They share most of their commonalities on and off the show. As for what happens this season, Palmer only teased, “It’s going to be a journey, that’s for sure.”
