Hallmark found its footing with family-friendly and romantic movies and television shows. However, the network is taking a new direction that has fans buzzing.
Making Horror Debut
Deadline reported that Tiera Skovbye and Kevin Alves will star in the new film entitled ScareBNB. Skovbye appeared in Season 12 of When Calls the Heart, while Alves was on Showcase’s hit show, Yellowjacket.

Production for the horror-thriller film will start in British Columbia, Canada, where Hallmark films all of its shows and movies. The movie is about college friends named Danielle, Jennifer, Nicole, and Evan, who go on summer vacation together. They end up at a deserted cabin, where chaos ensues.
The group finds out they’re being watched by a group of people who want them dead. Their trip takes a dark turn as they find out their attackers’ motive behind the trip. This isn’t your typical romantic film. It’ll have you clutching your blanket rather than cozying up to it.
Entering New Territory
This is an exciting new project for Hallmark. Canadian director AJ Lutsky teased what viewers can expect. “When fear gives way to humor, it creates this incredible vulnerable space where we can think and reflect without realizing we are doing it. That’s the key to his film,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Todd Slater teased the project as “a perfectly balanced slasher film with fun action and dark comedy.” It’s the kind of movie that’s “both commercially viable and creatively fresh,” especially for Hallmark. The media giant has been making big moves in recent months, slashing 30 jobs and adding more reality content to its programming. The company previously suggested it wanted to go back to its feel-good routes, but this new project ushers in a new era for the network.
