Being in the public eye isn’t always easy, especially when you’re going through a divorce. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards has dealt with comments about her estranged marriage to Mauricio Umansky. She’s also navigating life after their separation, which brought up questions about her sexuality.
What Does Kyle Think?
On Tuesday’s episode of RHOBH, Kyle, Garcelle Beauvais, and Sutton Stracke surprised Erika Jayne with a pizza party. In previous seasons, Erika exclaimed that no one had ever given her a pizza party after her divorce, so she finally got one. The ladies went to Chuck E. Cheese. During the celebration, the ladies bonded over the topic of divorce.
Suddenly, Garcelle was feeling inspirational. She told Kyle that she could be whoever she wanted to be. Her co-star took it one step further when she added, “If you want to be a lesbian, be a lesbian.” Kyle looked back at her in shock. She didn’t know what to say, but then she laughed.
During the RHOBH: After Show, Kyle revealed to Erika what was going through her mind at that moment. Erika repeated Garcelle’s comment, and she couldn’t help but laugh. “What was going through my head was, ‘You’re being an a**hole right now, and don’t try to act like oopsie daisies.’ You know exactly what you’re doing,” Kyle bluntly said.
She knew that Garcelle was “trying to get a reaction” out of her. Kyle wasn’t “offended” by the offhand remark. She’s received these comments about her for the “past year” in the tabloids and on the blogs. There was speculation that Kyle was romantically involved with country singer Morgan Wade. The two even appeared in a steamy music video together.
Garcelle argued in her interview that Kyle was “morphing into” her new BFF. But Kyle doesn’t care what people think. She only wondered, “What was the point?” She wanted to know the motive behind Garcelle’s words. Kyle wasn’t going to let Garcelle ruin her mood.
Garcelle Speaks Out
In another scene, Garcelle explains the reason behind that message. “Where I was coming from that night, it was about, ‘We are grown-a** women. We’re people’s mothers, we’re people’s grandmothers…’ I wasn’t pushing her to come out.” Garcelle wanted Kyle to know that she could be whoever she wanted to be.
In a later scene, Garcelle explains that Kyle is the type of woman who cares about what others think of her. “I think she’s trying to figure it out. If this is who you are, and even if you’re discovering it, discover it and own it.” Garcelle declared that they’re all “allowed to be who we are at our age.”
She feels that if she were upfront and honest, RHOBH fans would better understand and connect with Kyle’s journey. As for Kyle, she revealed what Garcelle said to her off-camera. (She also spilled on Sutton Stracke’s off-camera remarks.) Garcelle told her that she “couldn’t believe she said that.” Erika told Kyle, “Well, I can believe it.”
