The Bachelorette struggled to find its footing in recent years. It was previously reported that the show was on pause. However, it could get canceled if ABC doesn’t know how to revamp it.
New Details Emerge
Bachelor Nation fans were shocked to learn that ABC producers halted production on the new season of The Bachelorette. This is the first time in 20 years that the show has gone on hiatus. This decision came after Jenn Tran’s season, which was fraught with controversy. New details have emerged behind the network’s decision. There has been declining interest in the spin-off.
This isn’t the first time the show has gone on hiatus. The Bachelorette didn’t air in 2006 or 2007. This time, a reason wasn’t given for the break. An insider told The U.S. Sun that several factors are behind ABC’s decision to pull the plug, including declining ratings. “The show not coming back is a big blow for the network. It’s a pretty clear indicator that things are not where the network wants them to be – they haven’t done this since 2007, and that time was not for the same reasons,” the source shared.
Tran’s season of The Bachelorette reported a drop in ratings. It was the lowest among the 18-49 demographic, which is the core demographic. “To not be as strong in that demo, the bread and butter of the franchise was a big, big blow and the final straw for the suits to tell production to ‘take a step back, reassess, and we’ll see what the future holds.'”
Waning Interest
People might’ve lost interest due to increasing competition from other dating shows like Love Is Blind and Love Island USA. This has been reflected not just in the ratings but in the social media numbers. What also hasn’t helped is that the relationships on the show have a low success rate. “Mix all that with an increase in competition from rival dating shows that pop up more and more. So it’s time to hit the reset button,” the source added.
Yet, production is still confident that the show will return “in some way, shape, or form, ” but it might undergo a major reboot. Tran’s season isn’t the only one with low ratings. Charity Lawson’s season attracted 3 million. The most popular season was Hannah Brown’s. Do you think people have lost interest in this show? Let us know in the comment section.
