Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough are reuniting again. The exes will host the annual Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve live on ABC.

Key Takeaways

  • Seacrest and Hough will reunite for New Year’s Eve, with Seacrest hosting in Times Square and Hough co-hosting in Las Vegas.
  • Hough and Seacrest were famously romantically linked in the past.
  • The show will also include co-hosts Rita Ora in New York City, Chance the Rapper in Chicago, and a special live broadcast from Puerto Rico.

Back Together Again… For One Night Only

According to TV Insider, Julianne Hough will join her ex-boyfriend, Ryan Seacrest, for the New Year’s Eve special on December 31. Several co-hosts will be joining Seacrest from across the country. The Dancing with the Stars host will make her hosting debut alongside NFL star Rob Gronkowski.

The two will ring in the new year in Las Vegas. Seacrest will co-host alongside British pop star Rita Ora at New York City’s Times Square. Meanwhile, Chance the Rapper will be hosting the first-ever New Year’s Eve festivities from Chicago.

Hough and Seacrest dated from 2010 to 2013. This will be their first time interacting on live television. Of course, they won’t be ringing in the New Year together as they will be in different time zones.

In addition to the festivities, a special live broadcast would be held from Puerto Rico. News of the hosts and entertainers will be announced at a later date. ABC also hasn’t confirmed the performers who will toast to a New Year.

Behind Their Split

Seacrest and Hough went their separate ways in 2013 because they wanted different things. Hough wanted to elevate her career and seek her identity outside of Seacrest’s shadow. Their demanding careers and schedules also made it hard for them to maintain their relationship.

During her appearance on the Armchair Expert on August 12, 2024, the professional dancer reflected on what happened at the time. “I remember when I decided to break things off,” Hough said.

She was questioned for her decision by the “Brentwood moms and producers in that world,” who claimed, “‘Your life is completely set up.'” But Hough wanted to achieve success on her own terms.

“Of course, I was like, ‘I need to create this,'” Hough said. “Completely, it’s not mine. I need to feel the pride of doing it.” She was also concerned that people would assume that she used Seacrest for her personal gain. “And so I then started playing smaller,” she added.
