Erin Krakow talked about the Season 13 premiere of When Calls the Heart. She described it as a “love letter” to the residents of Los Angeles. It’s been a year since the wildfires, and the new season felt like a stark reminder of what happened.

Key Takeaways

  • A wildfire ravaged Hope Valley, which changed their lives forever.
  • The Season 13 premiere was heavy as the wildfire coincided with the one-year anniversary of the Los Angeles wildfires.
  • Erin Krakow shared her thoughts on that premiere and admitted that it wasn’t an accident.

Krakow’s Thoughts On Season 13 Premiere

In an interview with Soaps.com, Erin Krakow revealed that the Season 13 premiere was a “love letter” to Los Angeles. She had a feeling that the episode was inspired by real-life events. She admitted that it might be “challenging to watch” for those who lost their homes in the wildfires.

“It is an action-packed, drama-filled, emotional episode that we start to see a bit of at the end of Episode 1, but we really dig into it in Episode 2,” Krakow shared. The residents of Hope Valley battle the wildfires that broke out at Goldie National Park, which just opened. They also reached out to help those in Benson Hills, where the flames had traveled.

Hope Valley became a sanctuary for those displaced by the fires. “There is this horrendous fire, and we see Hope Valley open its arms to a neighboring town to really provide a safe haven for them and be not just a community for each other, but for an entire town,” Krakow explained.

When Calls the Heart Faces Shocking Loss

The Hallmark star was taken by the quote, “We rebuild, but first we have to mourn,” which was featured in the episode. Krakow noticed the similarities between the storyline and the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires.

“I think that quote holds a lot of truth. I also think it can be applied to many a domestic conversation where one person in a relationship wants to fix a problem, and the other says, ‘No, I need to dig into this and mourn it or just work through the emotions of it,'” Krakow said.

She noted that this episode was “very relatable” for every Heartie, even those who have never dealt with a fire. Most people have experienced some form of tragedy in their lives.

While there wasn’t a major character death in the Season 13 premiere of When Calls the Heart, the episode focused on a cliffhanger involving Nathan (Kevin McGarry) and Allie (Jaeda Lily Miller), who were caught in a dangerous windstorm.
