Doctor Odyssey fans are clever. They catch everything that happens on the show, which is not an easy task. They couldn’t stop buzzing about an editing error in the latest episode.
Glaring Mistake
Sometimes, so much happens on The Odyssey that it’s hard to catch what else is happening. However, fans quickly noticed this blooper during the Thursday, April 10 episode. One viewer noticed something strange about a scene involving Tristan (Sean Teale) as he shared his cheerleading past with Avery (Phillipa Soo) and Max (Joshua Jackson). A tree appeared behind him, even though they were out at sea.
“In last night’s Doctor Odyssey, while the ship was sailing around the ocean, a tree from the outdoor studio they film at (on land) could be seen behind Tristan,” the fan account shared on X. The screenshot showed the clear blue skies and the tree from the Los Angeles studio. ABC has corrected the error in the episode, which is now streaming on Hulu.
The fan account shared the before-and-after photos of the glaring mistake. However, another production error was found. “THEY FIXED IT. The tree has been removed. And it turns out they forgot to CGI the entire top of the ship too,” the user noted.
Too Costly To Produce?
Meanwhile, the future of Doctor Odyssey is currently up in the air. A previous report suggested that producing the medical drama was costly. Production takes place in Los Angeles, not on a cruise ship, as most fans assume. However, it’s not easy. Most of the scenes have to be CGI-ed in each episode.
A studio lot features some of The Odyssey’s iconic spots, including the ballroom, medical center, and full-functioning swimming pool. This glitzy drama is a massive undertaking, which is why ABC is stalling on whether to renew it. (Here are three reasons why ABC needs to save Doctor Odyssey.)
