When Calls the Heart Season 12 hit the halfway point. Everything was fine and dandy until now. A dark twist is coming for the residents of Hope Valley.
Sweet Dreams
On the Saturday, February 8th episode of WCTH, “When Autumn Leaves Begin to Fall,” Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) battles a head cold. This storyline might seem kind of dull, but there’s more to it than just a case of the sniffles. Elizabeth gets a fever and ends up having some heavy dreams about Nathan (Kevin McGarry). In a new interview with Swooon, Krakow revealed what this entailed.
“We have been playing these characters for many years now, and to get to see them in such a different light was really enjoyable, and hopefully enjoyable for the fans as well,” Krakow said. The dream sequences offered their characters a “really unique opportunity” to team up. Krakow teased that the dreams had “lots of fun Easter eggs” that hint toward the start of their friendship.
In that same episode, Nathan takes care of Elizabeth while she is sick. This added a new layer to their blossoming relationship. McGarry talked about how it “moves their relationship along into a great place without having to be so romantic.” The episode ends with Nathan catching Elizabeth’s cold. She will have to reciprocate the favor.
New Twists & Turns
Not everything is rainbows and butterflies this season. Krakow and McGarry teased a “big challenge” that’s headed for the new couple. The Roaring Twenties are a time of change. That’s the same for the residents of Hope Valley, particularly Elizabeth and Nathan. Something big happens that “shatters their world” and “shatters the entire community.” McGarry calls the moment “intense.”

By the season finale, Elizabeth and Nathan will address the next stage of their relationship. “There’s a definite decision that is made that alters the course of their future,” McGarry eased. Nathan has taken a prominent role this season. He has gone undercover to investigate the famous double-headed coin. But their relationship isn’t all serious. Krakow noted the couple will embark on “a really fun adventure where the undercover thing comes back in.”
There’s also much more dancing as it is set in the Roaring Twenties. That will continue into the remainder of the season. What do you think will shake up Hope Valley?
