Hallmark will premiere a new unscripted series on the network. Connie Britton will serve as host of the first-ever transformational series. This is the first unscripted series on the network since Home & Family with television personality Debbie Matenopoulos and General Hospital’s Cameron Mathison was cancelled.
What’s a Transformational Series?
Deadline was first broke the news of Britton’s new show on Monday, March 31. She will host The Motherhood, which premieres on Monday, May 5 at 8 p.m. ET. The one-hour episodes will run through June 2. The first two episodes will air on Hallmark, while the rest will be available to stream on Hallmark+.
The Motherhood is the cable network’s first-ever transformational series, which inspires women to transform their lives. The program follows Britton as she speaks with fellow single mothers about the demands of motherhood. As the photos on Deadline show, the ladies gather around a large table set in a barn and talk about how they juggle it all. Britton created the concept behind this series, while Queer Eye’s Scout Productions produced it. Hallmark is finding new ways to bring stories to the network.
“The stories we tell live and breathe universal themes of care, connection, family, and heart – all of which are longstanding, core tenets of the Hallmark brand that people know and love. Thanks to Connie Britton’s passion and vision for The Motherhood, this series is the perfect way to bring this positive impact to a broad audience, showcasing deserving women and the communities that come together to make a lasting impact on their lives,” Hallmark Media head of unscripted, David Stefanou, shared in a statement.
Britton has one of the most impressive resumes in all of Hollywood. She currently stars on The White Lotus, which has fans buzzing every week. She also appeared on Nashville, 9-1-1, and American Horror Story: Haunted House. Now, she’s exploring the lifestyle space with a relatable show about parenting, life, and work.
First Unscripted Series Since 2021
This is the first time that Hallmark banked on an unscripted series since 2021. Home & Family was cancelled after its ninth season. The final episode aired on August, 4. According to Deadline, there were numerous production challenges due to the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision behind the cancellation was to change up Hallmark’s daytime television lineup. Britton’s new series would also fit perfectly within the scope of daytime. However, it’s unclear whether this is a limited series that Hallmark is only testing. What are your thoughts on this news? Let us know in the comment section.
