CBS put together a two-month plan after The Talk airs its final episode. Beyond the Gates will fill its timeslot in February. But before then, the network scrambled to make some scheduling decisions.
Why Did The Talk Get Cancelled?
Earlier this year, CBS announced that the flagship talk show would be canceled after its 15th season. The network made room for Beyond the Gates, originally announced as The Gates. The move was part of CBS’ efforts to have more soaps in the afternoon.
This was shocking news to viewers of the daytime talk show. But ratings have been on a steep decline for months. According to a report via Deadline, the final episode will air on Monday, December 16. Typically, talk shows end their run during the spring season, so reruns can air during the summertime.
CBS’ Next Move
CBS had to find a way to fill time. They will run reruns of The Price is Right for the next two months during the 2:00-3:00 PM ET time slot. This decision is interesting, considering that ratings for the game show have also been declining.
The Price is Right is still one of the most popular game shows on daytime television. According to TV Insider, there’s been a significant drop in viewership. The show no longer dominates ratings like it used to. The reason is changing viewer habits and competition with other television shows and streaming services.
Enter The Gates
Beyond the Gates is currently in production in Atlanta. This new soap opera follows the Duprees, a prominent political family in a gated community situated in a suburb outside Washington, D.C.
This is a groundbreaking movie since it’s the first daytime soap centered around an African-American family. The first episode premieres on February 24, 2025. Check back with Soap Hub to learn more about Beyond the Gates, including casting news and spoilers.
