When Calls the Heart just wrapped up Season 12. Hallmark renewed the popular drama, which means more love and heartwarming stories to come. Now, there’s a big shakeup in the midst.

Big Change For Season 13

This change could affect the direction of the series. Lindsay Sturman will no longer serve as showrunner. Joy Gregory will take her place. Stuman and Gregory already have a working relationship. They previously worked together on the short-lived series, Joan of Arcadia.

This news broke on the Official Hearties Aftershow. Executive producer and co-creator Brian Bird announced that Gregory is now WCTH’s showrunner. Gregory shared her thoughts on her new position. First, she shared a message with the Hearties, who have been outspoken about the storylines.

“I’m deeply inspired by the fan engagement on the show,” Gregory shared. “It’s like nothing I’ve experienced in 25 seasons of TV that I’ve written and produced. It’s a very special show, and it suits my taste.” Gregory shared what fans could expect in Season 13. She wants to focus on “small moments between people.”

The storylines are going to be relatable this time around, as Gregory wants to focus on “flawed people try to love each other as best as they can in difficult circumstances.” She noticed that most television shows these days don’t focus on both. Gregory wants to blend these moments together.

Hearties Want Different Storylines

Hearties have been outspoken about the storylines in Season 12. Some have called the chemistry between Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) and Nathan (Kevin McGarry) “awkward” and “uncomfortable.” The Season 12 finale also received criticism. Little Jack was diagnosed with diabetes. The series ended on a cliffhanger with Elizabeth, Nathan, and their kids leaving Hope Valley. Some fans don’t buy the storyline since medication was invented and released to the general public around those times.

Regardless, it’s a gripping storyline. Elizabeth had to shift her priorities onto Little Jack. In the upcoming season, she could deal with the emotional turmoil of keeping her child alive. Fans wonder if they will see the beloved characters live their lives in Cape Fullerton. What are your thoughts on this change coming to Season 13? Let us know in the comment section.
