Below Deck Mediterranean Makes History By Not Firing Green Crew

Below Deck Mediterranean might’ve made history in Season 9. Captain Sandy Yawn didn’t fire any of her crew members. This is surprising, considering she’s had more than her share of trouble with them.

Green Crew

This season started off on rough waters. Captain Sandy Yawn was ecstatic to have Aesha Scott as her chief stew. However, the rest of the crew didn’t meet her expectations. Things didn’t start off smoothly, and the rest of the season was just as difficult.

There’s always the possibility of crew members getting fired within the Below Deck franchise. Several crew members have struggled with their jobs this season alone. First up is Bri Miller, who works as a third stew. She admitted that she’s green.

Even though she’s worked on boats in the past, Bri struggled with basic tasks like laundry. She couldn’t figure out how to dry or steam clothes. At one point, Aesha had to step in, which didn’t look good for the stew.

Meanwhile, Chef Johnathan “Jono” Shillingford couldn’t excite the guests with his food. The self-taught chef had to learn on the job. Things got worse when Jono served one guest shellfish, even though she was allergic. Jono narrowly avoided getting fired because Sandy couldn’t find a replacement.

Iain Maclean works as the bosun this season. He struggled with his leadership skills. He overlooked many safety measures, which rubbed Sandy the wrong way. What also didn’t help matters is that the two bumped heads over matters with docking.

Lastly, the second stew, Ellie Dubaich, has been on a power trip. She clashed with Bri all season over the laundry and their interest in deckhand Joe Bradley. Aesha noticed Ellie’s power trip in the September 16th episode. She threatened to shut her down.

No Firings?

Season 9 of Below Deck Med will conclude on Monday, September 23. The charter season is finally over. For the first time in the show’s history, none of the crew members will get the pink slip.

The season finale will center around Captain Sandy Yawn’s engagement to Leah Shafer. She asks Aesha to help her plan their special day. Aesha is so happy to be part of Sandy’s wedding. She recalls times when they had double dates with their respective partners.

Sandy seems to be in a better mood this season. She has wedding bells on her mind. This could be the reason why no one risked getting fired. Of course, this show isn’t without its share of drama. The midseason trailer showed Ellie angrily packing her luggage. Maybe she won’t be sticking around for the festivities.
