Fans of Dutch actor Rutger Hauer, who appeared in many films, most notably the Ridley Scott film, Blade Runner with Harrison Ford, are sad today in light of some news about the actor.
Numerous outlets, including TMZ, are reporting that Hauer, 75, has died at his residence in the Netherlands following a short illness. A memorial for the performer was held on Wednesday, July 17.
In addition to Blade Runner, the film that set the tone for the perception of a futuristic age, Hauer appeared in The Hitcher and in the television series Escape From Sobibor, which won him a Golden Globe in 1988 for Best Performance By An Actor In A Supporting Role (for television).
More recently, he appeared in Hobo With A Shutgun, Sin City, Batman Begins, and True Blood. Hauer worked with Sylvester Stallone in the 1981 film Nighthawks and was known for playing romantic leads as well as action heroes.
The actor established the AIDS awareness organization named the Rutger Hauer Starfish Association. In 2013, Hauer was made a Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lions.
Hauer told his life story in the memoir titled All Those Moments: Stories Of Heroes, Villains, Replicants, And Blade Runners. Proceeds from the tome went to the Rutger Hauer Starfish Association. Soap Hub sends condolences to Hauer’s family and friends at this difficult time.
