Anna Faris shocked fans of the CBS hit comedy Mom, when the actress announced during the pandemic that she wouldn’t be returning for the show’s eighth season.
Thankfully, the show has confirmed that Christy won’t meet a horrible death or experience a tragic return to the bottle, and her exit will be explained when the show premieres Thursday night.
Allison Janney (Bonnie) is sad to see her on-screen daughter go, and the actress joined the rest of the Mom cast in finally discussing Faris’s exit in an interview with ET Online.
“It’s a huge loss for the show to not have Anna because she was part of creating a character, Christy, that everyone fell in love with, who was so lovable and warm and gullible and funny and we will miss her so much,” Janney told ET’s Matt Cohen (ex-Griffin, General Hospital). “I think I’ll miss the most, for me, the relationship between Bonnie and Christy, even though that will still continue. But she won’t be present. That’s what I’ll miss.”
Jaime Pressly, who plays rich alcoholic Jill on the show, noted that for the characters, it feels like Christy is still among them because Bonnie is constantly calling her and the gang still talks about her all the time.
“We still hear the name, we still talk about her,” the actress said. “She’s not gone as far as we’re concerned, and we all spent so much time together over the years and love each other and support each other and we all want each other to be happy, so we’re happy for her and we miss her no matter what.”
Beth Hall, who plays Wendy, added that Faris was always great to be around on set and was so encouraging of all of her co-stars.
“If you were funny, if you did a great scene, she was always the first one to compliment you and tell you how well it went,” she said. “That was always great about her.”
While Mimi Kennedy, Christy’s sponsor Marjorie, shared her dressing room was next to Faris’s, she revealed that she’ll miss their walks and funny quips as they left the set together.
“She’s one smart cookie and I really, really enjoyed talking to her,” Kennedy said. “She was also very funny and very witty and I’m going to miss that because as we walk to the end of the hall, there would be one quip at the end of the night and I generally entered my dressing room laughing.”
Mom airs Thursdays on CBS and returns on November 5. Check your local listings for airtimes.
