The coronavirus has claimed the life of a member of the production team that makes Law & Order: SVU. Josh Wallwork has died from the virus at the age of 45. Executive producer and star Mariska Hargitay paid tribute to her fallen co-worker.
Warren Leight, Law & Order: SVU’s showrunner, shared the startling information on his social media account. “Very sad news today. One of our costumers, and a beautiful man, Josh Wallwork, passed away from complications of Covid-19. Cast and crew send love and prayers to his family and friends. We are heartbroken,” tweeted Leight.
Hargitay tweeted: “Heartbroken we are. I don’t think I ever saw him without a smile on his face. He brought love and kindness everywhere he went. Always ready with the joke. The SVU Corredor [sic] will never be the same. We will miss you Josh. #ForeverInOurHearts.”
Wallwork started working on SVU in 2018. His other credits include Bull, Madam Secretary, and The Get Down.
Krista Vernoff, showrunner of both Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19, expressed condolences on Twitter, writing: “I’m so sorry and so sad to read this. Love to you all.”
Support also came from Jill Lorie Hurst, former head writer of CBS soap opera Guiding Light. “What a tragedy. I’m so sorry.” Condolences also came from veteran soap scribe Jean Passanante (General Hospital, As the World Turns), who wrote: “My sympathies, Warren. Josh sounds like a lovely man. what a loss. This nightmare has come too close.”
Earlier this year, Law & Order: SVU was picked up through the 2022-23 season. It had shut down production due to concerns over coronavirus. According to The New York Times, there have been 325 deaths related to the virus and over 33,000 cases.
Created by Dick Wolf, Law & Order: SVU stars Hargitay, Ice T as Sgt. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, Kelli Giddish as Det. Amanda Rollins, Peter Scanavino as ADA Sonny Carisi, and Jamie Gray Hyder as Officer Katriona “Kat” Azar Tamin. Entertainment Hub sends sincere condolences to Wallwork’s family and the Law & Order: SVU company at this difficult time.
