Even before she exited her lead role on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Lisa Vanderpump was building her brand and looking beyond the Housewives series. She’s built her own show, Vanderpump Rules, now in Season 8, into one of TV’s most popular reality series.
Lisa Vanderpump Rules
Vanderpump and her husband and business partner Ken Todd have four Los Angeles-area restaurants — Villa Blanca in Beverly Hills, SUR, and TomTom Bar. They also have Vanderpump Cocktail Garden at Caesars Palace, a dog shelter/boutique called Vanderpump Dogs, and a wine label named Vanderpump Rosé.
“I’ve just always had quite a work ethic,” Vanderpump tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I think it ties into being a mother, being a creator and being a hostess. I like to make people feel good … except in the sack, of course.
“I don’t like people to do things for me, and sure, a bit of that stems from my being a control freak,” says Vanderpump. “I don’t want to just point my finger. I want to create it myself. That’s why I’m incapable of being passive in any relationship.”
Vanderpump says that Bravo hesitated about her reality series featuring a restaurant staff of kids in their 20s trying to survive in Hollywood. They felt it wouldn’t be a fit with the cable brand.
“Somebody said that it was going to be a show about wannabes,” Vanderpump recalled. “Everybody who’s waiting tables in Hollywood is a wannabe something or another. That’s why it’s interesting.”
Shocking Accident
Recently, she made some social media headlines after a car crashed into the establishment. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Showing her sense of humor, Vanderpump shared on The Talk that she put on her Instagram that PUMP was not a “‘drive-thru,’ thank you very much.”
Jokes aside, the incident could have been tragic as a few minutes prior to the accident, a table the car came into contact with had been filled with people. “It was a guy that lost control of his car, of course, he was obviously driving somewhat irresponsibly. But no, he was sober… and he drove into the wrong restaurant.”
Vanderpump Rules can be seen on Bravo in its regular timeslot, Mondays at 9 pm ET. The Season 8 premiere will be rebroadcast on Saturday, January 12 at 8:57 am ET.
