Law & Order: SVU Video – Benson Says Goodbye To Dodds

NBC’s Law & Order: SVU is officially back for its record-breaking season and now Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) has officially been promoted to Captain of the squad — but it’s come at a cost.

In this highlight video from the Season 21 premiere episode, which aired on Thursday, September 24, Benson finds out about her promotion from William Dodds (Peter Gallagher), but it’s bittersweet.

In fact, Dodds reveals he’s leaving SVU and heading to Staten Island. “I’m being sent to Coventry. As of Monday morning, I’ll be riding point for the Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Task Force on Staten Island,” he tells Benson.

Bittersweet Moment

Though Benson is upset to hear this, Dodds reveals his departure comes with good news for her. “You’ve still got work to do and gas in the tank. It’d be a wasted sacrifice… Captain. I made it a condition of my exile. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be back,” he says. Watch the video above to see how the whole scene plays out.
