Chris Meloni is staying busy during a self-imposed quarantine by doing some woodwork. The actor, best known for his run as Det. Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: SVU, recently showed off his craft skills but did the shutdown of production because of coronavirus possibly stop a surprise return to the SVU set?
“Quarantine Update: giant cutting board cut, routed, sanded, ready fer oil,” Meloni posted. “Backgammon set next.” The actor’s followers posted responses that ranged from “I need a big one like that!” to “I’ll take a cutting board, thanks!!!!” to simply “I love you,” (which we suspect Meloni gets response-wise no matter what he posts).
Something else Meloni is used to hearing is when will he return to Law & Order: SVU. Was that something in the works for this season? If so, it was being kept under wraps pretty tightly and we may never know as the Dick Wolf-created police drama had to end its current shooting season early due to coronavirus concerns.
Asked what he had planned for the show if the original order was going to continue, Warren Leight, showrunner, wrote on Twitter: “Well, believe it or not, Simon’s [Michael Weston] death was going to be re-examined in the finale. Along with the return of two prominent characters from earlier seasons. So, we’re sorry not to get to make that episode. The three before it were also in pretty great shape. So it goes.”
Perhaps, we will learn next season which characters were intended to return. Since exiting SVU in 2011, Meloni has stayed busy starring in such series and programs as True Blood, Veep, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, Underground, Happy!, and The Handmaid’s Tale.
More recently, Meloni has voiced the role of Commissioner Gordon on the animated series Harley Quinn. Next up is the role of Don Wild on the series Maxxx.
