Lady Gaga is setting the record straight on those pesky romance rumors with Bradley Cooper. The A Star Is Born co-stars nearly broke the internet following their performance at the 2019 Oscars, but Gaga just revealed it was all for show.
While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, February 27, Gaga said that while she and Cooper are not actually in love, they wanted the audience to believe in the romance for the performance!
“Ok first of all, social media, quite frankly, is the toilet of the internet. And what it has done to pop culture is abysmal. Yes, people saw love and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see,” the 32-year-old confirmed.
“[Shallow] is a love song, A Star Is Born is a love story. It was so important to both of us that we were connected the entire time… When you’re singing love songs, that’s what you want people to feel.”
She continued, “I’m an artist and I guess [Bradley and I] did a good job… fooled ya!”
While the performance was nerve wracking for both Gaga and Cooper, the actress couldn’t have been prouder to see her friend kill it on stage.
“Bradley is a musician. My favorite thing about the whole experience — I was so excited for everyone to see him sing live,” she said.
“In that moment when we started and he said ‘Tell me something, girl,’ the audience started cheering and I was like, ‘Yes Bradley! Keep going!’”
