From All My Children to Broadway. That can be a difficult transition for most soap actors, but not for Mark Consuelos. He made his Broadway debut in the play Fallen Angels. His wife, Kelly Ripa, hadn’t watched his live performance until recently.

Mark Consuelos’ Broadway Debut

Consuelos’ career over the years transitioned from daytime to primetime. He also appeared in his share of films. But now, he’s making another move. He made his Broadway debut in Fallen Angels.

In the play, Kelli O’Hara and Rose Byrne play two women who are in love with the same man, played by Consuelos. The plot sounds like something out of a soap opera. Consuelos is currently in the second week of his Broadway run.

Fallen Angels officially opens up to the public on Sunday, April 19. The cast also includes Christopher Fitzgerald, Tracee Chimo, and Aasif Mandvi. Consuelos is making his Broadway debut around the same time as his and Ripa’s son, Joaquin, will make his debut in the revival of Death of a Salesman on Thursday, April 9.

On the Monday, April 6, episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ian McKellen appeared on the show. The actor told Ripa that she needed to watch Consuelos in the play. She admitted that, while it was “very exciting” to know that McKellen had seen Consuelos on Broadway, she had yet to see her husband’s performance.

Ripa has finally watched Consuelos on Broadway. On the Wednesday, April 8, episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, she shared her reaction with the audience, as reported by TV Insider.

“You did not lie to me when you said, ‘You’re gonna love it.’ It’s my cup of tea,” Ripa exclaimed. “It’s just laughter from the moment you are taken back in time. The set is so glamorous. The costuming is perfect. Kelli O’Hara and Rose Byrne are so unbearably funny. They are geniuses. Their talent is so extraordinary.”

Ripa joked that she was “hurt” that Consuelos didn’t sign her Playbill. As for the show, she couldn’t stop laughing. She found it particularly amusing that the women talked about Consuelos’ “character for the entirety.”

Consuelos gave a shout-out to his co-star Tracee Chimo. Ripa called her “a revelation” who kept her laughing for “90 minutes” straight.
