Most actors hope to someday come into contact with an award, but Joey King didn’t quite expect her recent encounter with a Golden Globe to occur the way it did! Patricia Arquette, who won the statuette for playing King’s mom in Hulu’s The Act, brought her statue a little too close to her on-screen daughter after last night’s awards.
According to King’s social media account, she now has “bragging rights” for the rest of her life as Arquette accidentally hit King in the forehead with her Golden Globe while the two were in an elevator.
Arquette took to social media to let King know that (of course!) the tap was an accident. “What happens in the elevator stays in the elevator!” King’s celluloid mama posted. “No seriously I’m so sorry sweetest one!”
Ironically, there was plenty of abuse in the pair’s on-screen relationship in the streaming movie for which Arquette won her award for Best Supporting Actress, Series, Limited Series or Television Film. King was nominated for Best Actress Limited Series or Television Film.
The Act gives a fictionalized account of the real-life story of murder victim Dee Dee Blanchard (Arquette) and her Munchausen-syndrome-by-proxy daughter, Gypsy Rose (King).
Gypsy spent part of her life in a wheelchair, but the reality is her mother made people think her daughter was ill in order to gain money and sympathy. The tale took an even more dramatic turn when Gypsy asked her boyfriend, Nick Godejohn, to kill her mother, which he did. Gypsy is currently in prison serving a 10-year sentence. In 2018, Godejohn was sentenced to life in prison, following a trial and conviction of first-degree murder.
The publication In Style got in on the act by creating a humorous digital re-enactment of what the moment might have looked like. King, of course, as many fans know, is the younger sister of former Life In Pieces and current The Young and the Restless star, Hunter King (Summer). Check out the social media posts below.
