Internet Sensation Grumpy Cat Passes Away At Age 7

The internet’s most famous feline, known as Grumpy Cat, sadly passed away on Tuesday, May 14 following complications from a urinary tract infection. She was just 7 years old.

“Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection that unfortunately became too tough for her to overcome. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha,” the family shared.

“Besides being our baby and a cherished member of our family, Grumpy cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world — even when times were tough. Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.”

The cat’s real name is actually Tardar Sauce and she was from Arizona, but she rose to fame about six years ago thanks to her owner sharing a photo of Grumpy on Reddit.

Her scowl quickly went viral and became a meme that was shared by millions across the internet. In fact, Grumpy’s iconic face was actually named Meme or the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards!

Not to mention, she became the face of Friskies, a cat food brand, and even starred in a Lifetime Christmas movie called Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever. The famous cat had 2.5 million followers on Instagram, 8.5 million on Facebook, and 1.5 million on Twitter. She also had a fan in the legendary Stan Lee (see post below).
