The Handmaid’s Tale Flashback Video: Emily Has Surgery

There’s no question The Handmaid’s Tale is disturbing. Heck, it seems as if every episode there is something new to wince at. But, nothing quite compares to the devastation we all felt after Emily (Alexis Bledel) was forced to have surgery to remove, shall we say, the part of her body that makes sex enjoyable.

“The stitches will come out in a few days. I know this is a shock for you, Emily. You can still have children, of course, but things will be so much easier for you now. You won’t want what you cannot have,” Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) says in the clip.
