Grey’s Anatomy has taught us from the beginning that the most amazing award a doctor can win is the Harper Avery Award. Not only does it mean you’re one of the best doctors in the world, it means you’ve managed to complete something groundbreaking.

In this emotional flashback video, Jackson (Jesse Williams) accepts Meredith’s (Ellen Pompeo) Harper Avery Award on her behalf, as she’s in surgery when the ceremony is happening.

“The most amazing thing about Meredith is that she takes all that pain, all that loss, and she turns it into drive. Drive to save lives, to make things better.
