The Good Doctor returned to ABC on Monday just in time for Shaun (Freddie Highmore) to try to save a boy who eerily resembled his late brother.
Evan Gallico (Dylan Kingwell) landed in the hospital after breaking his arm during a school trip. This was suspect since all he did was trip but there was much more to Evan’s story.
It seems he had been diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer but his parents chose to keep that pertinent information from their son.
Shaun did not like this way of operating at all, but his mentor Dr. Aaron Glassman (Richard Schiff) told him that this was their right since their kid is still a kid–and their kid.
The young intern did not accept this explanation and went to Claire (Antonia Thomas) to ask her to lie for him. She accepted the strange request, reporting to Evan’s parents that their son required pins to be surgically placed in his arm.
Shaun was now free to take some bone marrow from Evan only to be thwarted when his parents burst into the room as he began the procedure.
By now, Shaun has realized that the kid already knew he has terminal cancer but his mom and dad didn’t know that he knew. So, Dr Murphy seemed like he had been telling his patient stuff he wasn’t allowed to tell him, ending up in hot water because of that.
Then, Shaun came up with a hypothesis that could very well have saved the young kid. If he was right, then Evan had been misdiagnosed but the chances of that being true were only point three percent.
Not good odds, but the good doctor was keen to pursue his line of thinking, Sadly, the cancer had already spread so the prognosis for young Evan remained dire.
