Emmy Award-winning actor Gary Sinise, who famously played Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, has long been a supporter of military veterans through his Gary Sinise Foundation.
On the Foundation’s website, Sinise explains that after the tragic events of September 11, he began devoting much of his time supporting the men and women who were deployed in response to those attacks—the brave service members who, each day, protect and defend our great country.
He also became more heavily involved in working and supporting veterans. For his efforts, Sinise has been honored as both an honorary U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer, as well as an honorary Marine by the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
This week, the former Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and CSI: NY actor sent out a special message on his Twitter page to those currently serving our country.
“Hey Folks, I just wanted to take a moment to send a message to all of our servicemen and women. God bless you all,” he wrote.
In an accompanying video, Sinise added to his patriotic message. Wearing a “Grateful American” T-shirt with an emblem of the U.S. Flag, he thanked those serving in “defense of freedom,”—those in the U.S. Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserve.
“God bless you for defending freedom around the world. This is a terrible, terrible time that we’re in right now with this global pandemic, yet you are on the frontlines making sure that we’re free and safe,” he said in the video. “Your family serve right alongside you, and we don’t take what you’re doing for granted.”
Sinise echoed his written words, telling our servicemen they are in his thoughts and prayers. “And on behalf of everyone in the Gary Sinise Foundation, we are serving you and trying to give back to you each and every single day, thank you, thank you to your families, may God bless you, and God bless American.”
